Richard Wells Biography

A self proclaimed "Palolian" (Life long resident of Palolo Valley), Richard H.M. Wells was born and raised in Palolo Valley Homes. He has dedicated his entire adult life to serving the people of Palolo and Hawai‘i by sitting on many community boards and organizations which help to empower the low income to becoming self sufficient. A father of 4 and grandfather of 6, he continues to juggle his demanding schedule to ensure that future generations learn to avoid poverty through education and understanding basic economics.

He has been performing since the age of 5 years old and credits the Sisters of the Sacred Hearts for his many talents and passion for helping others. His greatest fans have always been his parents and family members. Each year he dedicates at least one show to the memory of his parents.

Richard's professional career began at the early age of 15 years old while still in high school. His first stage performance was with renowned kumu hula, entertainer, instructor of Hawaiian Language and culture, Kumu Kimo Alama Keaulana. He also performed with some of Hawai‘i's famed entertainers, Aunty Genoa Keawe, Aggie Ah-See, Kekua Fernandes, Violet Lilikoi, Melveen Leed, Bill Kaiwa,  Mel Cabang, Harry B. Soria, Kimo Kahoano, Brickwood Galuteria, Kimo Keawe, Da Braddahs, Andy Bumatai, Darren Benitez, 3 Scoops of Aloha, Nu'uanu Brother's, Simplisity, Kamalamalama Brother's, Aunty Violet Alfapada & the Kaniloa's and many others over the past 30 plus years. He was a member of the group called the "Diamond Head Trio" whose members consisted Aunty Doreen Lindsey and Aunty Ann Machado-Cazimero who later replaced a former band member. Together they performed at such venues as the Moana Hotel, Outrigger Reef Hotel, Hilton Hawaiian Village and many other venues throughout their tenor. After a 15 year stint with the Diamond Head Trio the group disbanded after the retirement of both Aunty Doreen and Aunty Ann. Finding this as an opportunity to expand his performance skills, Richard formed the group "Wana" (pronounced vuh-nuh, a Hawaiian sea urchin). He incorporated his music talents and natural comedic styles for which he is now well known in the entertainment circle. He currently performs with his 2 sons Edward and James Wells as Richard Wells & Sons. Most of the time, however, he is asked to host as emcee for many events and shows. He is in high demand and has performed throughout the state of Hawai‘i, on stages in Las Vegas and other U.S. Mainland cities. His love for people shows in every performance. A true comic, each show is unrehearsed and unscripted and makes for unique, once in a life time shows. He takes his audiences on an emotional roller coaster ride with his stories of love which touch the heart and moves the audience to tears and then from tears to crying with uncontrollable laughter throughout the show. You will never find him glued to the stage as he prefers to roam the audience where he is most comfortable involving his audience as part of the show.

People say that he makes any event a joy and keeps his audiences mesmerized and in their seats, well, sometimes running out of their seats. Fans have talked about his performances for weeks, months and sometimes for years after. He has had many repeat customers and for some, he is the only person they'll hire for all their events. Even when not performing, he brings joy to a room with his warm smile and humorous personality. When asked what makes him happy, he will always say, "Making others happy". He truly believes that laughter is the best medicine and when his time comes to meet his creator, he hopes it is when he is doing what he the loves most and that is, "MAKING OTHERS HAPPY, with my microphone in hand of course."
